Frequently Asked Questions

Why seek therapy?

There are many reasons people seek treatment with a therapist. They may be struggling with stress, negative emotions, difficulties in their interpersonal relationships, or problematic use of substances. People may recognize that they feel unhappy or dissatisfied with their lives and are not sure how to change things for the better. Seeking help from a trained professional can help them to understand and view problematic life circumstance in new ways that are more manageable and with changes can lead to better living.

How frequently do I come to therapy?

In most instances therapy is usually one time per week done in 50-55 minute sessions. Sessions can be more frequent if there is an urgent reason or an emergency. Sometimes they can also be longer, 90-120 minutes, if that is more appropriate to the needs of the individual or family. Decisions regarding session frequency and length are based on a collaboration between you and Dr. Richard to decide what is necessary and appropriate.

How long does treatment does therapy last?

There is no set length of time for treatment in therapy. Generally, it is based on the particular issues that the someone is seeking help with. Some issues clients come to treatment for are very complex and difficult while others are more straightforward, therefore, when goals for treatment are established a clearer estimation for treatment length will be discussed based on the specific needs of that client.

Does your practice take insurance?

At this time the only insurance that this practice is In-Network with is Cigna. For all other insurances, I am happy to give a monthly statements called a superbill to clients to seek reimbursement for my services.

***For those paying “out of pocket” for services I will provide you with a Good Faith Estimate for the cost of treatment.***

How much do sessions cost?

Currently my fees for sessions are $200 per session for individuals and $225 per session for couples. I do not offer a sliding scale fee schedule.

Are sessions in person or do you see clients through telehealth as well?

I currently do both in person and Telehealth for client meetings.
